Introducing Debut Author Angie Thomas
March is almost here, as is the incredible book THE HATE U GIVE by Angie Thomas. In addition to being adorable and having excellent hair, Angie is a badass writer and has no fear of giant spiders. What more do you want? THE HATE U GIVE is out on Feb, 28, 2017. You can preorder it here!
Sabaa: You can transform into any animal at will—which one and why?
Angie: A bird, because then I could fly and not have to deal with airport security.
S: I relate to this so much. What’s the best lie you’ve ever told?
A: That I never lie ☺.
S: If you could punch one person on the planet with absolutely no repercussions, who would it be?
A. I would say but I don’t want the secret service at my door. Hint: tiny orange hands
S: What’s the one thing you can’t write without? Meaning, you’d go to battle against an army of orcs if they tried to take this thing away from you?
A: My laptop.
S: Yeah, I wouldn’t like that either, because then no book 2 from you! Can you give the writers out there one line of writing advice?
A: The next book may be THE book.
S: Not that I want to freak you out, but what’s your biggest fear going into your debut year?
A: That people will write the book off simply because of their feelings towards Black Lives Matter without actually reading it.
S: You can only listen to one band for the rest of your life. Who is it?
A: Band? TLC. But if it’s a solo artist, 2Pac. (Shocking, I know.)
S: Excellent choice. All right, let’s get down to business. You must choose between possessing Sauron’s One Ring and the Elder Wand (hoping you’ve read LOTR and HP, here.) Which one do you choose and why?
A: Elder Wand. That ring messed too many people up when they possessed it.
S: So young. So wise. More magic! With only your wit and an oft-malfunctioning magic wand, you are forced into a death match with either Shelob, the enormous spider from Lord of the Rings, or Voldemort. Who do you choose?
A: Shelob. I will conjure up a bunch of cans of Raid with my wand and handle my business. Accio Raid, yo.
S: You’re braver than I. A question in honor of Adam Silvera and Becky Alberalli, YA writers extraordinaire: Golden Oreos or Classic?
A: GOLDEN OREOS 4 LIFE. – Signed, Adam Silvera’s Golden Oreo Twin.
S: UGH, GROSS, but I still like you, so I guess I will just try to get over this. Describe your debut novel in one sentence:
A: After witnessing the shooting of her childhood best friend, an activist-in-the-making finds her voice.
S: Thank you Angie!
